The team at the Pittsburgh Irish Festival works tirelessly to create an authentic event that showcases the best that the Irish culture has to offer. This year, we were pleased to be able to present a festival that even included Ireland’s weather. Unfortunately, the luck of the Irish ran out and Mother Nature gave us a wee bit more than we were hoping for.
We received notice that the heavy rainfall would cause the river to rise and had to make the very difficult decision to cancel the last day of the festival. The safety of our patrons, volunteers, staff, vendors, and participants is paramount.
We have been overwhelmed by the love, support, and understanding of our community and can’t express enough how grateful we are to our staff and volunteers who were able to clear out the Riverplex of necessary belongings, supplies, and equipment in under 12 hours.
The funds raised at the festival each year go directly towards our mission to preserve and promote the rich Irish culture that exists in our area. As a small non-profit organization, the results of losing an entire day of the festival dealt a severe blow to our efforts. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those of you who have already made donations to support us. Plans for fundraisers that will feature the best you can expect from the Pittsburgh Irish Festival community are already in the works. In the meantime, we’d welcome any kind of support you can offer.
We are honored to have had so many great sponsors, volunteers, vendors, and team members this year and were thrilled to have had two fantastic (albeit wet) days of the 28th Annual Pittsburgh Irish Festival. Mark your calendars for the 2019 festival on September 6-7-8.
